Suspended Virginia Tech wide receiver Ike Whitaker was charged with misdemeanor public swearing and intoxication last Friday and will be scheduled to appear in court next month.
The Virginia Courts Case Information Web site revealed Whitaker's charges which he will be facing on Nov.6 at the Montgomery County General District Court. Whitaker, who has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Frank Beamer for a violation of team policy, was released Friday on his own recognizance.
Whitaker's arrest marks the second time that he has had a run-in with the law following his arrest in 2006 where he was charged with underage possession of alcohol, destruction of property and public intoxication. He was then sentenced to attend alcohol awareness classes, perform 25 hours of community service and pay $420 to Va. Tech to fix a window he broke. On top of that, he served a suspension that sat him out for half of spring football practice that year.
The redshirt junior, who once played the quarterback position, has played in three games this year but has only caught 3 passes for 14 yards.
