Two new bowl games to be played in 2008

The NCAA has approved the application of two new bowl games for 2008, in addition to the approval of the applications of the 32 existing postseason games.
The two newly-licensed bowl games for the upcoming season are the St. Petersburg Bowl and the Congressional Bowl. The former, which will be played between Dec. 20-23, will be held at the home of major league baseball's Tampa Bay Rays at the Tropicana Field and will pit teams from the Big East and Conference USA. The latter, on the other hand, will feature Navy and an ACC team and will be hosted in Washington, D.C.
Request for a third new game named the Rocky Mountain Bowl supposedly to be played in Salt Lake City was denied by the NCAA.
The bowl games whose licenses were renewed include the Allstate Sugar, AT&T Cotton, AutoZone Liberty, BCS National Championship, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces, Brut Sun, Capital One, Champs Sports, Chick-fil-A, Emerald, Fed Ex Orange, Gaylord Hotels Music City, GMAC, Roady's Humanitarian, Insight, International, Konica Minolta Gator, Meineke Car Care, Motor City, New Mexico, Outback, Pacific Life Holiday, Papajohns.com, PetroSun Independence, Pioneer Las Vegas, R+L Carriers New Orleans, Rose, San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia, Sheraton Hawaii, Texas, Tostitos Fiesta and Valero Alamo bowls.
In other bowl news, the Cotton Bowl has been moved to January 2 starting next year with a new time. The game will now be played in the afternoon instead of its previous 10 a.m. start. Next season's edition will also be its last in its current location as it will be moving to the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium starting in 2010.
The Papajohns.com also announced that the Birmingham, Ala. game for 2008 will be played by Big East and Southeastern Conference teams.
