Tulane Green Wave represents the Tulane University in NCAA division I-A college football under the West Division of Conference USA. Despite not winning a national title, The Green Wave has had several noteworthy years in the field marked by a number of undefeated seasons. Established in 1893, Tulane's football program was originally an independent team until four years later when the team joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. In 1900, the Green Wave finished the season undefeated with a 5-0 win-loss card. In 1912, the Green Wave also set a record of 15 rushing touchdowns and 95 points which still stands up to this point. By 1922, Tulane was affiliated with the Southern Conference and made quite an impression most especially during the 1925 season, 25 years after going unblemished in a tournament for the first time. The team did another undefeated season (but had one tie-with Missouri), went on to win the conference title, and was invited to a postseason Bowl game for the first time only to decline participation in order to keep their students in class. Tulane had a cluster of success from 1929 to '31, compiling almost a perfect three-season record (only a loss to Northwestern in the 1930 season was recorded) but was recognized for their efforts as the team was awarded the Southern Conference championship on those three years. In 1933, Tulane became a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and recorded their 5th undefeated season 6 seasons later in 1939 enroute to a SEC conference title.
As a member of Conference USA, Tulane regained prominence in 1998 as the team recorded their 6th unbeaten season with a 12-0 record. Despite becoming the Conference USA champs, the Green Wave however was not invited to a BCS bowl game which drew questions from supporters. All in all, Tulane's accomplishments include 9 conference titles, 10 postseason Bowl game appearances (winning 4), and a number of undefeated seasons.
