Todd Reesing (Born in Austin, Texas) plays quarterback for the Kansas Jayhawks in the NCAA college football tournament. The diminutive quarterback had his breakout year as a sophomore, leading Kansas to a near-Cinderella finish as the starting playcaller. As a first year starter, Reesing put up record-breaking numbers that include school-records in passing yards (3,259) and TDs (32), while placing no.11 in the nation in passing efficiency (152.4 Rating). His accuracy was also on full display during the season as he threw 213 consecutive attempts without an interception, leading Kansas to a no.8 ranking and a shot at the BCS bowl game against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

[edit] Personal Life

Todd is one of three kids of Steve and Debi Reesing. He has one brother (baseball player at Purdue) and one sister. His other hobbies aside from football include live music and snake wrangling. He works on a double major in economics and finance and would like to get an MBA someday. He looks up to New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees primarily because of their same stature as an "undersized" QB.

[edit] High School

Reesing attended Lake Travis High School where he played under coach Jeff Dicus and led the team to its first 10-0 record in school history. As a junior, he passed for 3,157 yards and 29 TDs and added 344 yards and 5 scoring runs earning for himself the 4A Player of the Year honors in the state of Texas. He was a first-team all-state quarterback, leading the Cavaliers to a district championship. As a senior, he was the Central Texas Player of the Year after throwing 3,340 yards and 41 touchdowns with just five interceptions and a 72.3% completion rate while rushing for 750 yards and eight TDs in leading his team to an 11-1 finish and a district and bi-district championships. The two-time District MVP (junior and senior years) also earned academic all-state and all-district honors and graduated at Lake Travis in the top one percent of 2005's graduating class. He finished his high school career with 6,500 passing yards, 70 TDs, 13 INTs, 1,100 rushing yards, and 13 rushing TDs and was only given a 3-star rating as a quarterback by Rivals.com.

Aside from earning varsity letters in football, Reesing also earned letters on baseball where he was a second-team all-district as an outfielder.

[edit] College

Although some high-profile schools like Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech passed up on Reesing because of his height, several schools still recruited him, including Kansas, Kansas State, Northwestern, Duke, TCU, and Purdue. Kansas State courtesy of Bill Snyder showed interest in Reesing but then eventually Snyder retired at the end of the 2005 season. He eventually landed a spot at KU. He took classes at three schools simultaneously; at Lake Travis, Texas Tech, and Austin Community College in order to graduate from high school a semester early and become a freshman at KU in January.

[edit] 2006

Reesing started his freshman year as a redshirt, with coach Mark Mangino rotating several QBs because of injuries and inadequacies. Eight games into the season, Reesing was inserted in the third quarter of the Colorado game with the Jayhawks trailing 0-9. After throwing an interception, Reesing completed the game going 7-for-11 for 106 yards and 2 TDs while rushing 90 yards (including a 63-yarder which stood as the longest run of the season) and a TD on 7 carries to lead the Jayhawks' 20-15 come-from-behind victory and earn for himself KU's offensive player of the week honors. He saw action in a couple more games: completing 3-of-5 passes for 35 yards and a TD while rushing 4 times for 14 yards and a TD against Iowa State; and going 4-for-8 for 63 yards in the season-finale against Missouri. He completed his rookie year completing 14-of-24 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns to go along with his 106 rush yards and 2 scoring runs in three outings.

[edit] 2007

After playing back-up to Kerry Meier the previous year, Reesing won the starting QB spot outright as a sophomore. He made his season debut against Central Michigan completing 20-of-29 passes for 261 yards and four TDs. Reesing completed the regular season passing for atleast 153 yards and had atleast a touchdown in KU's first seven games. He established a career-high 368 passing yards against Florida International and 6 touchdowns in a win over Nebraska. He ended the year throwing for a school record 3,259 yards and a school record 32 touchdowns, while ranking 12th in the nation in passing efficiency in leading the Jayhawks to an 11-0 start and a trip to a BCS bowl game.
