The Texas Tech Red Raiders is an NCAA Division I-A team that represents the Texas Tech University in the national collegeiate football tournament. They are also part of the Southern Division of the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech's football program dates back in 1925, playing their first ever game against McMurry University which ended in a 0-0 tie. The team played in the independent scene for seven years before being part of the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. As a member of "BIAC" the Red Raiders were Conference Champs in nine occassions. The team returned in the Independent scene in 1957 but found a new home with the Southwest Conference 3 years later. The team were Southwest Conference co-champions in 1976 and 1994 before joining the Big 12 in 1996.

Since joining the Big 12 Conference, the Red Raiders have so far been the only team in the group to have a winning season each year since the Big 12 was created in '96. The team has also appeared in 30 Postseason Bowl Games, taking the trophy home nine times.
