Texas A&M University's football program, the Texas A&M Aggies, was founded in 1894 and currently plays in the Big 12 Conference South Division of the NCAA Division I-A College football. The program has switched affiliations quite a few times: in 1903 with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association; back in the independent scene in 1909; with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1912; with the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association by 1913; the Southwest Conference in 1915; and currently with the Big 12 Conference since its first creation in 1996. It was with the Southwest Conference however that the Aggies won 17 out of the team's 19 Conference titles, along with their lone National Championship in 1939. The team also has a couple of other national championship selections, in 1935 and in 1940.

The team's home turf is the Kyle Field, an 82,600-capacity stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University which has been considered as one of the best college football stadiums in America.
