The Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is represented by the Temple Owls in NCAA's Division I-A college football tournament. Established in 1894, Temple's football program started in the Independent scene before being affiliated with the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation in 1958. It was in "MASCAC" that Temple won their lone conference title in 1967. After 12 seasons, the Owls went back to the independent circuit before joining the Big East Conference in 1991. The Owls never made a strong mark in the Big East up until its explusion after the 2004 season because of various program shortcomings. The team had instead agreed to play a limited Mid-American Conference schedule in 2005 and 2006 before becoming a completely affiliated football-only member and playing a full 8-game league schedule in 2007. The Owls has so far only been to two postseason Bowl Games, dropping their first to Tulane in the 1935 Sugar Bowl before winning their second against California in 1979 for the Garden State Bowl.

Despite only winning a solitary game in 23 games the past two seasons, the team hasn't dropped in the all-time winning percentage standings as of yet, keeping a firm grip in the 99th spot with a 43.51 clip.
