Stephen McGee (born Stephen Richard McGee on September 27, 1985 in Round Rock, Texas) plays quarterback for the Texas A&M University Aggies in the NCAA college football tournament. McGee entered his sophomore season in 2007 as one of the finest dual threat quarterbacks in the nation and by the end of his junior year, he was able to prove just why. McGee broke the school's single season record for rushing yards by a quarterback established by Reggie McNeal after rushing for 899 last season and is well on his way in breaking the school's career record for the same category. His 2,961-yard and 3,210-yard performances in 2006 and 2007 are two of the top five total offense individual outputs in school annals.

Personal Life
Stephen Richard is the son of former Blinn Junior College quarterback Rodney McGee and wife Susan of Burnet, Texas. He admits to have inherited his competitive mentality from his father, who was also a coach. Stephen, a marketing major at Texas A&M University, also have aunts and uncles who previously attended the university. He completed his undergraduate coursework in less than four years, receiving a B.B.A. in marketing from Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in August 2007 and has went on to pursue a master's degree at Mays.
Outside the football field, Stephen organizes Fellowship of Christian Athletes meetings on campus. During his spare time, he enjoys to hunt and even got a new custom-made deer rifle from his father as a graduation present. According to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report, McGee's dream job is to become a professional deer hunter.
High School
McGee played high school football for Bob Shipley at Burnet High School where he was a record-setting passer as a three year starter at the playcalling position. McGee got his first start as a sophomore, going 93-for-176 for 1,829 yards and 20 touchdowns with eight interceptions to earn an all-district selection. The following year, he went 155-for-276 for 2,841 yards and 34 touchdowns with five interceptions to earn a second all-district pick and a first all-state accolade while leading Burnet to a 3A state championship appearance. In his final playing year, McGee completed 196-of-313 passes for 3,579 yards and 47 touchdowns with three interceptions (none in the regular season) as he once again guided his team to a second straight 3A state final appearance, earn a second all-state and third straight all-district selection, and bag the 3A Offensive Most Valuable Player award. In addition, he also receive a second-team Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine Super Team and the Austin American-Statesman All-Centex Co-Player of the Year honors. He ended his high school career with 8,256 passing yards and a 3A state-record 101 passing touchdowns in leading Burnet to a 36-5 overall record, going 28-2 in his final two seasons.
Apart from the gridiron, McGee also saw action as part of Burnet's basketball and track and field teams, earning an all-district selection as a sophomore before being sidelined by an injury the following year. He also qualified to the regional meet in track with the 400- and 1,600-meter relays. But aside from his success in athletics, McGee also showed excellence on the classroom (4.0 GPA) after being ranked as the #1 student-athlete at school and the #9 overall in his senior class of over 250.
College
Lauded by scouts as a quarterback who possess a strong arm, decent mobility, and great decision-making, McGee, who was a 4-star rated and 12th ranked quarterback in his class according to Scout.com, got offers from Texas A&M, Georgia, and Texas.
2004
During his freshman year, McGee redshirted behind All-Big 12 quarterback Reggie McNeal.
2005
When he was a redshirt freshman, McGee still played behind McNeal at the quarterback position. He made his collegiate debut against Southern Methodist, and made the most of his brief appearance with a 3-for-3 completion for 56 yards with 2 carries for 20 yards. He returned to the field almost a month later, completing 9-of-15 passes for 112 yards (first 100-yard game of his career) and 1 TD while carrying twice for 15 yards in a loss @ Colorado. In a win over Oklahoma State, he played mop-up job and completed all of his 3 passes for 32 yards and 1 TD while rushing thrice for 9 yards. He also saw limited minutes in losses to Iowa State and Texas Tech before being inserted in crucial Big 12 games during the final stretch of the season. With McNeal sidelined on an ankle injury, McGee displayed his ability to run as he rushed 10 times for 67 yards, picking up first downs on his 10-, 11-, 12-, and 14- yard runs. But after going 0-for-6, McGee's efforts were not enough as the Aggies fell short to Oklahoma, 30-36. McNeal kept his quarterbacking duties in the regular season finale versus Texas and held his own against counterpart Vince Young. In that game, he completed 9 of 23 passes for 83 yards but did most of his damage on the ground, carrying the football 24 times with 2 scoring runs, outrunning Young 108 yards to 19 and helping A&M rush for 277 yards. UT however held on for a 40-29 victory that saved its national championship hopes. McGee ended his rookie year going 24-for-53 for 283 yards and 2 TDs to go along his 43 carries for 235 yards and 2 TDs.
2006
During his sophomore year, McGee had his first full season as the starter for the Aggies. In his season debut against The Citadel, he led the team to three TDs in the first half, engineering A&M's first drive to the 1-yard line that ended on a 1-yard scoring run from Courtney Lewis before the Aggies widened the gap to three TDs on two other short drives, the latter of which McGee punched in himself on a one-yard sneak. A&M went on to win 35-3 with McGee completing 16-of-24 passes for 200 yards (first 200-yard passing game) and 1 TD with 8 carries for 18 yards and a score. In a win over Louisiana-Lafayette, he posted 200 passing yards on 20-of-27 passing with 1 TD while rushing 7 times for 42 yards. In a win over Army, McGee carried the rushing load in the absence of Lewis and produced a career high 142 yards while completing 7 of 11 passes for 102 yards and a TD as A&M barely escaped with 28-24 victory. In the Aggies' 4th straight win, McGee threw for season best 318 yards and three touchdowns (19-of-28) in a 45-14 runaway against Louisiana Tech.
The following week, McGee had one of his worst passing games of the season, completing only 9 of 20 passes with no TDs and his first interception of the season as Texas Tech edged A&M courtesy of Graham Harrell's 37-yard TD pass to Robert Johnson. He was however able to redeem himself the following week @ Kansas as he bucked what was another struggle on his passing game. McGee completed 25 of 45 passes (both season highs) for 240 yards, 75 of which coming in the final drive when the Aggies moved 80 yards downfield and claimed the close 21-18 win over the Jayhawks. McGee, who also added 12 carries for 30 yards and a TD was anointed the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The Kansas win started A&M's 4-game winning streak, which include wins against Missouri (19 of 23 passes for 183 yards and 1 TD), @ Oklahoma State (17 of 26 pass completion for 192 yards and 2 TDs), and @ Baylor (went 12-for-21 for 215 yards and 2 TDs). A&M went on a two-game losing streak after that, losing 1-pointers to Oklahoma and Nebraska. Against the Sooners, McGee failed to complete a crucial pass at 3rd and 2 on the goal line in the 4th quarter and A&M eventually lost the game 16-17 as the sophomore QB went 8-of-18 for 63 yards with 1 INT. Against the Huskers, the Aggies struggle early but McGee & his troops tried to rally back with 17 second half points only to fall short, 27-28. McGee was 18-of-31 for 244 yards with 1 scoring run. In the regular season finale @ 11th ranked Texas, McGee led an 88-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that practically sealed the 12-7 upset win over the Longhorns which prevented UT's hopes of a back-to-back league title.
McGee made his postseason debut in San Diego for the Holiday Bowl against California where he went 17-for-26 for 177 yards and 1 TD, with 8 carries for 31 yards as A&M lost to the Bears, 10-45. He ended his sophomore year with an honorable mention All-Big 12 and a Big 12 Academic Honor Team accolades.
2007
Prior to the season, McGee was featured on the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football on June 2007 alongside Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and TCU defensive end Tommy Blake. It was also announced on the 26th of June 2007 by Maxwell Football Club president Ron Jaworski that McGee was one of the 64 players in the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award.
In his season debut against Montana State, McGee posted the second 100 rush-100 pass game of his career after passing for 112 yards on 10 of 20 passing with 9 carries for 121 rushing yards and 2 scores on a 38-7 win. He followed it up with a second straight 100-yard game rushing of the season with 124 in a 47-45 win against Fresno State before turning up his passing game with 237 yards (19-of-33 completion) and 1 TD in a huge win over Louisiana-Monroe. A&M suffered a momentary setback against Miami, with McGee limited to 109 passing yards and going TD-less in 11 of 20 passing with 16 carries for 39 yards and his third scoring run of the season. But McGee spearheaded a 2-game win streak over Baylor (16-for-28 for 200 yards and 1 TD, 17 carries for 110 yards and 1 TD) and Oklahoma State (11-for-20 for 169 yards and 1 TD) to improve the team's standing to 5-1.
After a loss to Tech where McGee threw for 133 yards on 17-of-30 completion, A&M rebounded with a 36-14 win over Nebraska with the Texas native claiming a Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for a season high 167 rushing yards on 35 carries. The last four games did not look pretty for the Aggies as they went on to lose 3 of the last 4 regular season outings. But McGee, who has been playing inspired football at this stages in hopes of giving the school officials a reason to keep his head coach Dennis Franchione on the Aggies fold (Franchione was already on the "chopping block" due to A&M's poor performance and the embarrassment of a secret e-mail newsletter), had a pretty decent showing during this span: completing 24 of 44 passes for 244 yards and 1 TD against Kansas, going 15-for-28 for 155 yards and 1 TD with 71 rushing yards on 16 carries against Oklahoma, passing for 247 yards on 18 of 28 completion against Missouri, and finally posting season highs in completions (25), passing yards (362), and scoring passes (3) in another upset win over 13th ranked Texas which shattered the Longhorns' title aspirations.
Despite McGee's efforts, The Franchione era ended with a 17-24 loss to Penn State in the Valero Alamo Bowl. McGee was 19-for-31 for 164 yards with 1 INT in his junior season ender. He was also named into the All-Big 12 selection with an Honorable Mention accolades. He also led the team in rushing (181 carries for 899 yards and 5 TDs), passing (211-for-364 for 2,311 yards and 12 TDs) and total offense (3,210 yards, 545 plays).
2008
McGee underwent an offseason shoulder surgery but was able to take part in the seven-on-seven drills during spring practice. New coach Mike Sherman said that he and sophomore Jerrod Johnson (last year's backup) are very close in the quarterback competition.
