Southern Arkansas Director of Athletics Jay Adcox said Tuesday that coach Steve Quinn has been dismissed from his position as head coach of the Mulerider football squad effective Tuesday.
“We certainly appreciate the hard work, dedication, and many years of quality service that Coach Quinn has demonstrated over the past eight years to the University and the football program,” Adcox said.
Quinn capped his eighth season as SAU's head coach with a 23-16 win at Arkansas-Monticello last Saturday to finish the year with a 2-8 record. He concludes his career with a 39-47 record. His most successful tenure was back in 2003 when he led the Muleriders to a berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs before finishing with a 9-3 record.
Prior to his head coaching stint, Quinn served as an assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Southern Arkansas from 1997-1999.
A search process to fill the position will begin immediately.
