The Penn State Nittany Lions is Pennsylvania State University's football team in the NCAA Division I-A Big Ten Conference collegiate football tournament. The Penn State football squad is the most recent addition in the Big 10, having joined the conference only in 1993 from being independent since the football program's first establishment in 1881. A year after joining the Big Ten, Penn State won its first of two conference titles, the second one won in 2005. In addition, the Nittany Lions have captured the national titles, twice in the early 1900's (1911 and 1912) and the other half being the two consensus national championships won in 1982 and '86 under coach Joe Paterno. Penn State has also turned out several undefeated seasons, seven of them to be exact (1887, 1912, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1986, 1994). The school also have other national championship selections in 1969 (with an 11-0 record), 1981 (10-2), and in 1994 (12-0).

Thus far, the Nittany Lions have appeared in 39 postseason Bowl Games (winning 25 of them), and is home to 1 Heisman trophy winner, 21 College Football Hall of Famers, and is currently one of 11 schools that has 5 or more Pro Football Hall of Famers (Penn State has five: Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Mike Michalske, Lenny Moore, and Mike Munchak).
