The Oregon Ducks football squad is part of the Pacific-10 Conference, playing Division I-A college football for the University of Oregon. The Ducks football program was established as early as 1894, playing independently for over thirty seasons before becoming a charter member of the Pacific Coast Conference. Although the Oregon Ducks made it to the Rose Bowl (and won their first Bowl title) in their maiden season, the team's first conference title came three years later in 1919, capped by another Rose Bowl appearance, this time a defeat at the hands of Harvard. The Ducks added three more conference championships in 1933, '48, and '57 before the PCC disbanded after the 1958 season. Oregon returned in the independent scene momentarily before being admitted in the Pacific-10 Conference in 1964 along with eventual rivals, the Oregon State Beavers. The Ducks contented themselves with several bowl game appearances, waiting for 30 seasons for their first ever Pac-10 title. The team won this championship a couple more times, two in a row from 2000 to 2001. The Ducks have thus far compiled seven conference titles, and appeared in 20 postseason bowl games, winning 7 of them.

Aside from the national and conference titles, as well as the many bowl games, the Oregon Ducks are looking forward to winning a special annual tussle with rival Oregon State Beavers, fondly called as the Civil War. This game has been going on since 1894, making it one of the oldest college football rivalries in the West Coast and 7th oldest in the nation. The games are alternately played between the Reser Stadium in Corvallis (home field of Oregon State University) and Autzen Stadium in Eugene (home field of the University of Oregon) and as of 2006, a total of 110 games have been played with the Ducks holding on to the advantage (55-45-10).

Highlights

Replay Controversy. In 2006, Oregon staged a comeback against Oklahoma, turning a 20-33 deficit into a 34-33 victory. But the game ended in controversy with Oklahoma contesting a play that eventually led to Oregon's final touchdown score. With the score standing at 33-27 for Oklahoma, 1:12 left in the game, Oregon had an onside attempt which was believed to have been recovered by Oklahoma. (Oklahoma argued that the ball had made contact with an Oregon player before it went the required 10 yards anyway, so the ball should still be theirs.) After the officials checked the replays, the call was not reversed, giving Oregon the possession which eventually led to the final TD.
