The Oklahoma State Cowboys represent the Oklahoma State University in NCAA Division I-A Collegiate Football. The Cowboys are part of the Big 12's Southern Division. OSU's football program started in the early 1900's, playing in the independent scene. The Cowboys found a home with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference in 1914, playing in that conference for seven years before switching affiliations with the Southwest Conference. By 1925, the team found a new home with the Missouri Valley Conference, where they won 8 out of their 9 Conference Championships. Their last title came 17 years after joining the Big Eight Conference in 1960.

Along with most of the Big 8 teams, the Cowboys joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996 but has yet to win a title in their present home. Aside from the forementioned 9 Conference titles, the Cowboys have appeared in 16 Postseason Bowl Games, taking home the title in 10 occassions.

At the helm of the Cowboys football squad is a former Cowboy himself and the school's all-time passing leader, coach Mike Gundy. OSU's home games are played at the Boone Pickens Stadium which currently undergoes extensive renovation and expansion.
