Oklahoma linebacker Austin Box will be ready to play by Saturday when the 4th ranked Sooners take on the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Head football coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday that Box, who sat out the season-opener against Chattanooga, was back at practice. Box just recently got cleared medically after being sidelined for some time when he underwent arthroscopic surgery last month to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.
"We'll see through the week how much," Stoops said, referring to Box's playing time. "But he'll play."
Box was a projected starter prior to his injury. In his place, the coaches tapped redshirt freshman Travis Lewis to start the last time out with junior college transfer Mike Balogun playing back-up. Lewis said he is ready to relinquish his spot if Box is ready to play.
"Box was the starter above me and Mike, so right now he's taking the snaps with the (starters). I'm sprinkling in here and there, but if he's ready, he's the guy," Lewis said. "I have all the confidence in Box."
Lewis had six tackles while Balogun had two against the Mocs.
