After eight months of waiting and anticipating, the college football craze is back and for the next four months, gridiron fans will get to see their favorite players and teams strut their stuff in the field. No doubt, heated rivalries will be renewed and several anticipated match-ups will take place. Here are the top 20 games you will not dare to miss, as tracked down by Sports Illustrated.

  • Plot: Possible first college road start for Jimmy Clausen.


Miami at Oklahoma

  • Previous Encounter: 01.01.1988. Oklahoma had a good season but Miami had a better one, sweeping all of its games including the Orange Bowl game where the 'Canes blew off the Sooners, 20-14.
  • Plot: First big test for Miami coach Randy Shannon who took over the 'Canes head coaching position in December 2006.


Florida State at Clemson

  • Previous Encounter: 09.16.2006. The Tigers clawed the Seminoles for the second straight year, 27-20.
  • Plot: The Battle of the Bowdens on its 9th year has Clemson coach Tommy Bowden enjoying a two game winning streak over his father, Florida State coach Bobby Bowden. This game also features the top two teams in the ACC Atlantic Division.


UCLA at USC

  • Head to Head: USC leads UCLA, 41-28-7.
  • Previous Encounter: 12.02.2006. The Bruins smothered the Trojans' highly touted offense, 13-9, eventually crushing USC's national championship aspirations.
  • Plot: Number one ranked USC are waiting to get their hands back on #14 UCLA after the Bruins cost the Trojans a chance to play for the national title game. Expect the scores to be down as both teams are bringing majority of their defensive line-up back.


Tennessee at Cal

  • Head to Head: Tennessee leads California, 2-1-0.
  • Previous Encounter: 09.02.2006. The Volunteers hunted down the Bears in last year's Saturday slugfest, 35-18, handing California an opening day loss.
  • Plot: Number 12 ranked California is looking to end the 12-game season-opener winning streak of the #15 ranked Vols as a way of returning the favor after the Bears were humbled by Tennessee with a blow-out last year.


Boise State at Hawaii

  • Head to Head: Boise State leads Hawai'i, 6-2-0.
  • Previous Encounter: 09.23.2006. Boise State coasted to an undefeated season last year, including the Broncos' ramming of the Hawai'i Warriors, 41-34 in Idaho.
  • Plot: Two names who are expected to figure prominently for this year's Heisman trophy are the centerpiece of this game, namely Colt Brennan of Hawai'i and Ian Johnson of Boise State. Hawai'i is also looking for its first win over Boise State since joining the WAC.


TCU at Texas

  • Head to Head: Texas leads TCU, 60-20-1.
  • Previous Encounter: 11.18.1995. The "Horn battle" ended with Texas disposing its Southwest Conference rival Texas Christian, 27-19.
  • Plot: It has been over a decade since these former SWC rivals locked horns in the field. #22 TCU is looking to upset #4 Texas, reminiscent of the Horned Frogs' shocker over Oklahoma in 2005.


LSU at Alabama

  • Head to Head: Alabama leads LSU, 43-22-5.
  • Previous Encounter: 11.11.2006. LSU finished 2006 with seven straight wins, including the Tigers' conquest of the Alabama Crimson Tide in November, 28-14.
  • Plot: Nick Saban led the Tigers to the BCS national championship in 2003. Now he is not only looking to duplicate the feat with his new team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, he is also looking forward to snap the Tigers' 4-year winning streak over 'Bama.


Florida State at Virginia Tech

  • Previous Encounter: 12.03.2005. The Seminoles and the Hokies clashed in the ACC Championship Game just a couple of years back, with Florida State escaping with a 27-22 victory over Virginia Tech.
  • Plot: The clash of the ACC titans could well be a preview of the ACC title game. Coach Frank Beamer is also on the hunt for his first win over Florida State in 8 attempts.


West Virginia at Rutgers

  • Head to Head: West Virginia leads Rutgers, 28-4-2.
  • Previous Encounter: 12.02.2006. The Mountaineers of West Virginia sealed its 2006 regular season campaign with a conquest of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in triple overtime, 41-39.
  • Plot: Rutgers' will try to rally from last year's heartbreaking loss to West Virginia that cost the Scarlet Knights a BCS bid and a Big East title. The game will also be a showcase of two of the best RBs in the nation: Ray Rice of Rutgers and Steve Slaton of West Virginia.


Nebraska at Texas

  • Previous Encounter: 10.21.2006. The Texas Longhorns rammed the Nebraska Huskers in a close one, 22-20.
  • Plot: Nebraska's heartbreaking loss to Texas last year is still fresh in the memory of the Cornhuskers. This game possibly is a preview for this year's Big 12 title match.


Tennessee at Florida

  • Plot: Florida QB Tim Tebow, along with nine players on the Gator defense, will make their first SEC start.


USC at Nebraska

  • Head to Head: USC leads Nebraska, 2-0-1.
  • Previous Encounter: 09.16.2006. The USC Trojans made quick work of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Los Angeles, 28-10.
  • Plot: Nebraska was limited to a measly 211 total yards last year. This year, QB Sam Keller, who threw for 357 yards as an Arizona State QB in 2005, will be spearheading the Huskers attack against USC's highly touted defense.


Michigan at Wisconsin

  • Head to Head: Michigan leads Wisconsin, 48-11-1.
  • Previous Encounter: 09.23.2006. The Michigan Wolverines scratched the Wiconsin Badgers in the team standings with a 27-13 victory in Ann Arbor.
  • Plot: The Badgers will be seeing red in blue as they try to avenge last year's only loss of the season at the hands of Michigan.


USC at Cal

  • Previous Encounter: 11.18.2006. The USC Trojans crushed the California Golden Bears in Los Angeles, 23-9.
  • Plot: Cal has been winless against USC since 2003. The Bears are looking to overthrow the number one team in the nation, matching their dynamic offense against the Trojans astounding defense.


Louisville at West Virginia

  • Location: Morgantown, West Virginia

  • Head to Head: West Virginia leads Louisville, 6-2-0.
  • Previous Encounter: 11.02.2006. The Louisville Cardinals soared over the West Virginia Mountaineers in a high octane game in Louisville, 44-34.
  • Plot: The philosophy "Offense wins games" obviously is put to heart by both teams as evident in last year's scuffle that saw both teams combining for a Big East record of 1,008 total yards in offense. The game also features three Heisman Trophy contenders in Brian Brohm of Louisville and Pat White and Steve Slaton of West Virginia.


Virginia Tech at LSU

  • Location: Baton Rouge, La.

  • Head to Head: Virginia Tech leads LSU, 1-0-0.
  • Previous Encounter: 09.01.2002. The Virginia Tech Hokies clamped down on the LSU Tigers in Blacksburg, 26-8.
  • Plot: VTech (#9) and LSU (#2) are regarded as strong contenders for the national title. The Hokies are deemed favorites as they have won their past eight road openers.


Texas vs. Oklahoma

  • Head to Head: Texas leads Oklahoma, 57-39-5.
  • Previous Encounter: 10.07.2006. The Texas Longhorns rammed the Oklahoma Sooners with a 28-10 victory in Dallas, Texas.
  • Plot: The Red River Rivals have dominated the Big 12 South Division in the past few years, with both teams combining to win the previous eight Big 12 South titles. This year should be no different which makes the quest for The Golden Hat a very interesting game to watch.


Ohio State at Michigan

  • Head to Head: Michigan leads Ohio State, 57-40-6.
  • Previous Encounter: 11.18.2006. The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines fought in a tight finish, with the Buckeyes winning by three, 42-39.
  • Plot: Ohio State and Michigan enter 2007 as the favorites to meet in the Big Ten title match. The Buckeyes though seem to have the Wolverines' number, with the former winning three straight and five out of six over the latter.


Florida at LSU

  • Head to Head: Florida leads LSU, 28-22-3.
  • Previous Encounter: 10.07.2006. The Florida Gators chomped on the LSU Tigers, 23-10, to win its 6th straight game to start 2006 before falling to Auburn the following game (Gators' only loss of the season).
  • Plot: The caliber of the Division I-FCS champs will be put to immediate test with a grueling schedule that includes a trip to Death Valley to face the Tigers. Florida and LSU are also expected to finish on top of the SEC standings.
