The "Missouri Tigers" is the University of Missouri–Columbia's football program currently affiliated with NCAA's Division I-A Big 12 Conference, North Division. The "Mizzou" football program began in 1890 in the independent scene but was affiliated with Western Inter-State University Football Association in 1892. The team spent six seasons in Western, where it won three (3) straight Conference Championships (1893,'94,'95). From 1898 through 1906, the team returned in the Independent scene before joining the Missouri Valley Conference in 1907. In "MVC," the Tigers added six (6) more conference championships to their stash. From 1928 through 1995, Missouri became a part of the Big 8 Conference where they won six (6) more conference titles, the last of which happened in 1969. Mizzou appeared in 24 postseason Bowl games, tallying a 10-14 win-loss record.

With a team comprised of experienced players, the Tigers are considered as "the biggest challenger within the North Division of the Big 12." They are also ranked #18 by Street & Smith's College Football 2007 Yearbook preseason magazine [1].
