Max Hall (born October 1, 1985 in Mesa, Arizona) plays quarterback for the Brigham Young Cougars in the NCAA college football tournament. After spending some time at the Arizona State camp, Hall transferred to Brigham Young in 2006 and finally had the chance to show his wares the following season as the Cougars' starting quarterback. He made a strong case for the MWC's Offensive Player of the Year honors and although he lost out to namesake and Air Force running back Chad Hall, he nonetheless put up impressive numbers with 3,848 yards and 26 TDs with a QB rating of 137.7.

[edit] Personal Life
Max is the son of Mark and Cristall Hall and is the nephew of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current head coach of the Utah Blaze (Arena Football League) Danny White and grandson of Wilford White, both ASU Hall-of-Famers. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Des Moines, Iowa in 2005 but returned after serving only seven months.
[edit] High School
Hall attended Mountain View High School in Arizona and led the Toros to back-to-back state championship appearances. During his junior year, he passed for 2,384 yards and 26 touchdowns in leading his team to a spotless 14-0 record enroute to claiming several honors that include East Valley Tribune's Offensive Player of the Year and Region Offensive Player of the Year, as well as the 5A Player of the Year accolades and a second-team all-state honors. The following year, Hall led the Toros to a 13-1 record and a second straight state championship appearance after throwing for 2,405 yards and 35 touchdowns on a 131-for-203 completion. The Arizona Republic all-Arizona quarterback and the East Valley Tribune state Offensive Player of the Year in 5A also rushed for 344 yards on 54 carries and four more touchdowns while also amassing a school record of 5,257 career all-purpose yards. Aside from earning East Valley Tribune's Region Player of the Year and first team honors, the Arizona Coaches Association also selected him as an all-state quarterback, while the Phoenix Metro Football Magazine also awarded him with the Mesa City Player of the Year and a first team all-offense quarterback honors.
Hall, a two-time Ed Doherty Award finalist (given to the state's top player), was also rated by the SuperPrep as the preseason's #25 QB in the nation and the #4 player in Arizona and was also ranked by Rivals.com as the #27 QB in the nation. He also garnered a Preseason All-American honors from SuperPrep and an all-region selection from PrepStar Magazine.
[edit] College
Several teams recruited Hall, but he chose to sign with Arizona State over Northwestern, Utah and Washington State.
[edit] Arizona State
Hall redshirted with the Sun Devils in 2004 but never really got to see action.
[edit] Brigham Young
[edit] 2006
Upon his transfer to BYU, Hall was ruled ineligible by the NCAA to play with the Cougars and was prohibited from dressing for home games or travelling with the team on road games. He was however allowed to practice with the squad and was designated as the scout team's quarterback during the season.
[edit] 2007
BYU had several candidates to replace outgoing signal caller John Beck, namely Cade Cooper (a junior college transfer from Snow College), Brenden Gaskins (a junior college transfer from Glendale Community College), Jacob Bower, and Hall. After Bower transferred to Bakersfield College and Cooper sustaining a season-ending injury during the annual spring game, coach Bronco Mendenhall awarded Hall the starting spot following the Spring Camp while Gaskins got the back-up role.
He made his debut as a Cougar against Arizona where he completed 26 of 39 passes for 288 yards and 2 TDs in the 20-7 win. He also put up impressive numbers the following week after passing for almost 400 yards and 2 TDs in a loss to UCLA. In week 3, he established career highs in completions (34), attempts (57), passing yards (537), and TDs (4) but also threw 2 INTs in a loss to Tulsa. After back-to-back setbacks, Hall engineered his team to 10 consecutive wins, passing for atleast 156 yards and throwing TDs in all but one game (against Utah). He also garnered a share of the MWC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Wyoming where he completed 26-of-37 passes for 331 yards and 3 TDs. Despite sustaining a Grade 3 shoulder sprain against the Cowboys, Hall still managed to play the final three games including the season-finale against UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl where he completed 21 of 35 passes for 231 yards and 2 TDs in the 17-16 squeaker over the Bruins.
Hall ended his sophomore season throwing for 3,848 yards (8th in the nation), 26 touchdowns (22nd in the nation), and only 12 interceptions with a 137.7 passer efficiency rating (21st best in BYU history, 5th-best by a sophomore) to earn a First Team All-MWC accolades from the league and several other publications.
[edit] 2008
Hall and the other veteran Cougars did not participate in the spring scrimmage as coach Bronco Mendenhall decided to give the younger players the chance to play. During the preseason, he was named as a preseason All-America honorable mention by NationalChamps.net, a Preseason All-MWC First Team pick by Phil Steele, Athlon Sports and the MWC Media, was tabbed as the MWC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and a candidate to the Heisman Memorial Trophy, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and Davey O' Brien National Quarterback Award candidate. He was also chosen as one of the four captains for the year.
In the season opener against Northern Iowa, Hall threw for 486 yards and two touchdowns on 34-of-41 completion to lead the 16th ranked Cougars to a 41-17 victory. The following week at Washington, he completed 30-of-41 attempts for 338 yards and three touchdowns to help No.15 BYU claim its first-ever victory over UW at Husky Stadium and bag his first MWC Player of the Week accolade. Against UCLA, Hall bagged his second straight MWC Player of the Week honors in addition to being named as the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week after completing 27-of-35 passes for 271 yards and a school-record tying seven touchdown passes in BYU's 59-0 destruction of the Bruins.
