Knowshon Moreno (Born June 16, 1987 in Belford, New Jersey) plays tailback for the Georgia Bulldogs in the NCAA college football tournament. Moreno put up a record-breaking debut season as a Bulldog, rushing for 1,273 yards and 12 touchdowns with an average of 106.1 yards per game to become the 12th player in Georgia history to pass the 1000-rush yard mark. His total rush yards ranked 7th in UGa's all-time single season records and 4th all-time among SEC freshman in a season. The Belford, N.J. native has racked up six 100-yard games, including five straight, during his rookie season and ranks no.2 in the nation behind only LeSean McCoy of Pittsburgh in rushing yards per game average among the freshman.

Personal Life

Knowshon grew up in Belford, a section of Middletown Township, New Jersey. According to his grandmother Mildred McQueen, part of his name came from his mother's real name which was Varashon, a character in a short story. According to Mildred, Know was for knowledge while -shon was from Varashon.

High School

Moreno attended Middletown High School South where he played under coach Steve Antonucci and helped his team to win three consecutive state championships. He capped his high school career rushing for 1,808 yards and 43 touchdowns on 185 carries in 10 games as a senior. He completed his playing career at Middletown High as New Jersey's all-time leading scorer with 782 points and 128 touchdowns, while placing second in rushing yards in New Jersey's high school ranks with 6,268 career yards. He also had a career-high eight rushing touchdowns in a game against Holmdel Hornets.

Moreno, an EA Sports All-American, was a top-rated recruit in high school with Rivals.com ranking him as the #10 running back in the nation and placing him #3 in the postseason New Jersey top 50 and #73 in the Rivals 100 list. Scout.com also ranked him as the #9 running back in the nation while PrepStar included him in their PrepStar 200 list.

College

Aside from Georgia, several teams recruited Moreno including Maryland, Michigan, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Florida. He eventually landed with the Bulldogs after signing his letter of intent with UGa.

2007

Moreno was sharing running back duties with starter Thomas Brown in the Georgia backfield during his debut. He made his first appearance against Oklahoma State where he rushed 20 times for 70 yards while adding 2 receptions for 51 yards in the win over the Cowboys. Moreno's playing time increased in the ensuing weeks with Kregg Lumpkin sidelined with a broken thumb. In his 2nd game, Moreno recorded 14 carries for 104 yards and 2 catches for 14 yards in a loss to South Carolina the following week. He finally scored his first TD run in his third game, while collecting 94 yards on 13 carries and catching 2 passes for 33 yards in a win against Western Carolina. He added TD runs no. 2 and 3 in the following weeks against Alabama and Mississippi while setting his career high in receptions at 3 against the Rebels. With starting rusher Brown sidelined with a broken collarbone prior to the Vanderbilt game, Moreno got the nod as the replacement and posted 28 attempts for 157 yards while catching 2 passes for 18 yards against the Commodores after being named as the team's captain.

The following week, Moreno registered a career high in attempts with 33 and touchdown runs with three while rushing for 188 yards in a win over Florida. He also matched his career high in scoring runs the following week against Troy while setting a career high in rushing yards with 196 on 26 carries during that same game. Also against the Trojans, Moreno joined Herschel Walker as the only Dawgs to rush for 1,000 yards in his freshman season. He eventually collected a couple more 100-yard games against Auburn and Kentucky to become the first rusher since Walker to run for 100+ yards in five consecutive games in 1982. He capped his freshman year with 9 carries for 61 yards and 2 TDs on his postseason debut against Hawai'i, aiding the Bulldogs to a 41-10 victory over the Warriors.

Moreno had a multi-awarded freshman year, earning several postseason awards from the league coaches and several publications, most notably the SEC Freshman of the Year award from the Associated Press and Freshman All-America First Team selections from CFN, Rivals.com, and Scout.com. He recorded 248 carries for 1,334 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns for his rookie season.
