[edit] Personal Life
Kevin was born in Santa Clara, California but grew up in San Jose. He majored in communications at San Jose State University.
[edit] High School
Jurovich attended Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California where he lettered in football while playing under head football coach Mike Machado. As a senior, Jurovich led the Warriors to an 8-2 record in the regular season and a second place finish in the WCAL. He went on to play a major role in victories over Willow Glen in the first round of the playoffs, over Santa Cruz in the semifinals, and in the finale against Pacific Grove, 69-0. The Division IV championship shut-out win over Pacific Grove saw Jurovich tally four touchdowns, scoring two from interceptions, one on a punt and another on a run. He concluded his final playing year with 24 total touchdowns and then proceeded to make an appearance in the 2004 Santa Clara County All-Star Football Game. During the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Game, Jurovich caught a 78-yard touchdown pass and threw a pivotal reverse-pass that set up the game's final score as his South team edged out North, 20-15. [1]
[edit] College
Scout.com gave Jurovich a 1-star rating as a cornerback. He signed his letter of intent with San Jose State University after receiving a scholarship offer.
[edit] 2005
Jurovich had his first taste of football action in 2005 as a safety and made his season debut against Eastern Washington where he recorded a season high four tackles (2 solos, 2 assists) in the 35-24 victory over the Eagles. He also added 1 stop against Illinois, 1 @ Utah State, another against Hawai'i, 2 more in his first start @ Louisiana Tech, two unassisted tackles @ Fresno State, a couple more against New Mexico State, and one other in the regular season finale victory over Idaho for a grand total of 14 for the season in 11 outings. He also had a lone appearance on the Spartan offense, rushing once for a yard in the 23-30 loss against Nevada. Aside from playing defensive back, Jurovich also saw action on the special teams, being the team’s number-one holder for kick-scoring attempts.
[edit] 2006
As a sophomore, Jurovich resumed his defensive and special teams duties for the Spartans, starting off with the season opener @ Washington where he had 1 take down in the 29-35 loss to the Huskies. He got his first start the following week in the 35-34 win over Stanford where he recorded a season best 3 tackles. He also added two more stops against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and one other against San Diego State, both outings a win for the Spartans. After the Utah State game, his last bit of action for the season, Jurovich quit from the San Jose State football team "to get his life in order" after sustaining an injury, being buried in the depth chart at his position, and having problems with school and other off-the-field responsibilities.
[edit] 2007
In his third season with the Spartans, Jurovich competed for playing time in the wide receiver position. During the spring game, he caught 2 passes for 14 yards. Because of his brilliant performance in the team's practices, he got the call to start at the wideout spot to team up with sophomore Jalal Beauchman.
Getting his first career start on offense against Arizona State, Jurovich was limited to a catch for 9 yards to go with 1 tackle in the 3-45 loss. The following week, he established personal highs of 10 catches for 82 yards, with 2 carries for 13 yards in the 14-34 loss @ Kansas State. He also chipped in a couple of receptions for 41 yards and 2 rushes for 20 yards in the 0-37 shut-out loss @ Stanford. In the WAC opener @ Utah State, Jurovich had 7 catches for 93 yards with 2 tackles as the Spartans claimed its first win of the season, 23-20. In the team's first home game of the season, Jurovich tallied his first career 100-yard game with 135 receiving yards and 2 TDs on 7 receptions in the 14-34 win over UC Davis. He followed it up with a 10-catch, 161-yard, 1-TD effort in the 28-20 win over Idaho in the team's third straight victory. The team's winning streak however was snapped by Hawaii after the Warriors came from behind to snatch a 35-42 overtime win over the Spartans notwithstanding Jurovich's third 100-yard receiving game of the season and second 2-touchdown performance. Losses on the road to Fresno State and Boise State followed as Jurovich caught 58 yards on 8 catches against the Bulldogs but was limited to a season low 7 receiving yards on 4 carries with 1 TD against the Broncos. SJSU did turn things around with a huge win against New Mexico State after Jurovich caught 10 passes for a career high of 233 yards with 2 TD receptions in the 51-17 win. His 233 yard output, the most for a WAC player that time, resulted in a WAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade. His 10 catches also made him the first San Jose State player to catch 10 or more passes in three different games in one season. Against Louisiana Tech, Jurovich recorded his fifth 100-yard game of the season, catching 11 passes for 156 yards in the 23-27 loss. In the season finale, Jurovich battled through injuries and came out with 91 receiving yards and 1 TD on 8 catches as the Spartans rallied from a 14-point deficit to claim a 27-24 home victory over Nevada.
Jurovich ended the year as the team's leading receiver with single season bests of 1,183 receiving yards and 9 TDs on 85 receptions with 12 carries for 56 yards. He also chipped in 5 tackles, 3 unassisted, while playing on the Spartans' defensive team. Jurovich, who joins Edell Shepherd (1,500 yards in 2001) and Guy Liggins (1,208 in 1987) as only the third Spartan to accumulate over 1,000 receiving yards, was also recognized by the league coaches with a spot at the All-WAC second team.
