Kentucky freshman wide receiver Aaron Boyd was cleared for contact and returned to practice early this week after being held out of the football field due to his battle with mononucleosis.

Boyd practiced with the team for the first time in about a month since being diagnosed with mono during the preseason camp. He was one of the highly-touted recruits by the Wildcats with both Rivals.com and Scout.com naming him as the No. 1 prospect in the state as a senior at Lexington's Henry Clay High School.

UK head coach Rich Brooks said however that it is still too early to tell whether Boyd will be ready by Saturday in the home opener against Norfolk State since he still has lot of grounds to cover after missing several practices and team meetings.

"We'll see how he comes along and make a decision this week or next on whether we move forward and play him or redshirt him," Brooks said of Boyd, the brother of ex-UK QB Shane Boyd.

In other injury-related developments at the Wildcat camp, offensive tackle Gary Williams is questionable for this weekend after suffering a knee injury in Monday's practice. Freshman wideout E. J. Fields will be redshirting after sustaining a hamstring strain during the preseason camp.
