Kentucky senior left tackle Garry Williams underwent a knee operation Thursday and will be sidelined for approximately 2-3 weeks.
Williams, who had developed swelling in his knee this week, discovered the cartilage tear through an MRI. His absence will be felt by the Wildcats what with him being the most experienced offensive lineman in the line-up with 26 consecutive starts tucked under his belt.
“It (playing a different system) creates a lot of problems from an inexperience standpoint, when you lose a guy that has played that many (games) and protects the blind side of the quarterback,” Wildcats head coach Rich Brooks said of their next opponent's 3-4 defensive system.
Without Williams, UK will likely start either redshirt freshman Billy Joe Murphy or junior James Alexander in Saturday's home opener against Norfolk State.
