Jorvorskie Lane (born Jorvorskie Javion Lane on February 4, 1987 in Lufkin, Texas) plays running back for the Texas A&M University Aggies in the NCAA college football tournament. Known by many aliases on the football field, Lane has made a name for himself as an effective rusher most especially in short-yardage and goal-line situations. After spending three-fourths of his college career running the football for A&M, Lane may be undergoing a position change for 2008 with new coach Mike Sherman installing a "pro-style" offense.

[edit] Personal Life

Jorvorskie, also known as J-Train, is the grandson of Linda and Larry Morris of Lufkin, Texas and the paternal half brother of Jermichael Finley, who plays tight end for the Texas Longhorns. When he was born, Jorvorskie was four months premature and weighed only four pounds. He was confined in the hospital for the first fourteen days of his life as his organs were underdeveloped.

He grew up under the guidance of his grandparents in Lufkin. His grandmother didn't want him to play football eversince because he didn't want him to get hurt. When he was in seventh grade, his coach tried to move him from running back to tight end and he protested by walking off the field.

Jorvorskie lives with his girlfriend and their daughter Javia, who was born in early 2006 when he was just a college freshman. Jorvorskie, an agricultural leadership and development major at Texas A&M University, said that his daughter motivates him to go to class and succeed in both his education and in his football career.

[edit] High School

Lane attended Lufkin High School where he was a standout in both basketball and football. Despite weighing 230 pounds as a freshman, his high school football coach John Outlaw called him the "best guy he's ever coached" and that he could have "started at every position on either side of the football". On the hardwood, Lane averaged 16 points per game and was an all-district selection. On the gridiron, Lane was teammates with fellow Texas A&M signee Alton Dixon and was a three-year starter who made an impact during his sophomore season by rushing for 626 yards and 14 touchdowns on 106 carries while catching 44 passes for 499 yards to help Lufkin register a 12-3 record and a state semifinal appearance. During his junior year, "The Lufkin Muffin" weighed over a hundred pounds lighter from his weight as a freshman, produced 1,320 rushing yards and 22 touchdown runs as his team went 9-2 by season's end. In his final playing year, Lane had 282 carries for 1,944 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns to go with his 27 receptions for 408 receiving yards and 5 TD catches as Lufkin earned a Class 5A Div. I state semifinal berth with its 14-1 record. He ended his high school football career rushing for 3,671 yards and 70 touchdowns and catching 82 passes for 1,060 yards in three seasons as a starter at Lufkin High to earn an all-state and All-East selection twice to go along his two district MVP awards. A Prep All-American and a preseason All-Greater Houston pick, Lane was also chosen as part of the Texas Football Magazine’s Super Team as listed by Dave Campbell.

[edit] College

Rated three-stars and ranked #40 by Scout.com, Lane chose to sign for A&M over Florida, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Washington State.

[edit] 2005

As a true freshman, Lane made four starts while appearing in 10 of the Aggies' 11 games. He made his debut against Southern Methodist, rushing 11 times for 54 yards and a touchdown while catching a pass for 6 yards as Texas A&M defeated the Mustangs, 66-8. He was limited to 3 carries for 12 yards against Texas State, a carry for a yard and a TD in the overtime win over Baylor, and 6 attempts for 29 yards and another TD in a loss @ Colorado before turning out single game highs in a win at Oklahoma State. Against the Cowboys, he had 22 carries for season highs of 139 yards and 3 scoring runs in the 62-23 win. He also reached the endzone twice while rushing 28 times for 98 yards in a win over Kansas State. After the win over KSU, the Aggies suffered a 4-game losing skid, and Lane was limited to a lone touchdown during that span (that score came against Oklahoma). He did however manage to post his second 100-yard game of the season after rushing for 104 against Texas in the season-ender.

He concluded his rookie campaign with 595 rushing yards (8th most by an A&M freshman in school history) and 9 scoring runs (4th most by a freshman in A&M record books).

[edit] 2006

The Lane Train returned on his sophomore year to become the nation's top short yardage/goal line running back after appearing in 13 outings and starting 10. After a slow season debut where he was limited to 7 carries for 29 yards and 1 TD, Lane rebounded with a career best four touchdown rushes on only 12 attempts for 52 yards in a lopsided win over Louisiana-Lafayette. He followed it up with a three touchdown and his first 100-yard game (24 carries) in a close 28-24 win over Army. He also scored 2 touchdowns in games against Louisiana Tech, Kansas, and Oklahoma State, and posted his second 100-yard game in a win over Missouri. After a 9-3 regular season record, A&M went on to the Holiday Bowl for Lane's inaugural postseason appearance, rushing 7 times for 36 yards while catching 2 passes for 11 yards in a 10-45 Aggie loss to California.

By season's end, the Round Mound of Touchdown recorded 166 carries for 725 rushing yards and 19 TDs (#1 in the Big 12 and tied a 79-year old school record) to go with his 7 receptions for 82 yards. He also had a touchdown or first down on 26-of-29 carries on third and fourth down carries.

[edit] 2007

During his junior year, a slimmed down Lane (down to 268 pounds from 282 as a sophomore) appeared in 13 games and helped the Aggies to a 7-6 overall record. In his season debut, he racked up 40 yards on 10 carries with 1 score as A&M defeated Montana State, 38-7. The following week, he matched his career high of 4 scoring runs, carrying 23 times for 121 yards as the Aggies edged out Fresno State in a close 47-45 win. In the team's third straight victory, he ran 11 times for 34 yards with 2 scores as A&M defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 54-14. Although J-Train was limited to 2 carries (2 yards) and went scoreless in a loss to Miami (Fla.), he was able to rebound in the next four outings with a couple of 100-yard games (123 against Baylor and 130 against Nebraska) while scoring at least a TD in that span, including another career best 4 touchdowns against the Huskies as the Aggies record a 3-1 standing in that span. But as the Aggies suffer a three-game losing streak, Lane would also go through a slump, with only a TD and a total of 102 yards registered. He finished the regular season with 18 carries for 69 yards in a win over Texas and capped his third A&M year with 10 rushes for 34 yards in a loss to Penn State. He ended the season with 169 carries for 780 yards and 16 TDs with 12 catches for 115 yards and 1 TD.

[edit] 2008

Lane announced early in December that he would be returning in an Aggie jersey for his senior season and finish his degree. Entering his senior year, he has already amassed 2,100 rushing yards and a school-record 44 touchdowns (6th on the NCAA Bowl Subdivision list for career touchdowns) with 454 carries. [1]
