Born Dennis Lee Dixon Jr. on Jan. 11, 1985 in Oakland, California, Dennis Dixon plays quarterback for the Oregon Ducks in the NCAA college football. Dixon is a versatile athlete who aside from playing football, is also into baseball. Dixon officially became a dual athlete after the Atlanta Braves picked the 6'4", 196-pound outfielder in the 5th round (168th overall) in the Amateur Baseball draft. Dixon has proven that he is as deadly of a passer as he is as a rusher as he completed 63 percent of his passes through his first four games a year ago and better than 65 percent in four of his 15 career starts over two seasons. Dixon's 625 run yards ranks second overall to Reggie Ogburn's 1,171 yards in terms of rush yards by an Oregon quarterback. He is also 12th in the Ducks' all-time total offense list with 3,618 yds. Dixon holds the 40 yard dash record for a quarterback at Oregon with a time of 4.49 seconds.

High School

Dixon has displayed his double-threat offensive prowess of running and passing as early as his high school days with San Leandro High School. As a three-year starter, Dixon has always been a winner as he went almost undefeated throughout his high school varsity career under the tutelage of Coach Scott Nady. Dixon gained prominence during his senior year with the Pirates as he completed 164 of 268 passes for an impressive 61.2% completion rate. He also threw for 2,736 yards and 30 touchdowns in his last year to earn more votes than any other quarterback (8 votes) in the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Best in the West list. The Parade All-American concluded his varsity years passing for 5,951 yards and 79 scores as he led his team to a 36-3 record. Dixon was 94th out of 100, and the 12th best among quarterbacks in the top college prospects as listed by ESPN.

In terms of baseball, Dixon was chosen by Cincinnati in the 20th round of the 2003 Amateur Baseball Draft.

College

2004

Dixon entered the Oregon fold in 2004 but played sparingly during his rookie year. He appeared in six of 11 Duck games, completing 6 of 15 pass attempts for 73 yards but failed to connect on a touchdown. He also rushed for 40 yards in 10 carries and tallied a single-game rushing best of 18 yards against Oregon State.

2005

During his sophomore year, Dixon was pushed into the spotlight with the absence of Oregon's QB1 Kellen Clemens due to an injury. Dixon was a key contributor to Oregon wins in each of his three collegiate starts. He registered a combined 13-0f-15 pass completion for 92 yards versus USC and Stanford as a second string QB. In Oregon's second game of the year against Montana, Dixon was able to connect on his first scoring pass in college. During an Oregon-Washington State game a week before the season finale, Dixon was honored as the team's player of the week after he directed the Ducks on a 73-yard drive that led to the game-winning field goal with a second remaining on the clock. As a regular season starter, Dixon completed 43-of-65 passes for 540 yards with 5 TDs and 1 interception while also running for 72 yards in that span.

Dixon completed the season connecting on 69 passes in 104 attempts for 777 yards, while also rushing for 143 yards on 49 carries on a 7.2 yard/carry average. Dixon received an Academic All-Conference honorable mention following the season.

2006

Dixon started in 11 games during his junior year and responded with career numbers on each of his first three appearances. Dixon produced one of his most productive games against Oklahoma as he completed 26-of-41 passes for 341 yards and 2 TDs. Dixon also managed to match his career high of 3 TDs in a game against Arizona State. After only 5 games, Dixon was already tied for 7th place in the country in terms of total offense with a 290.8 ypg average and was also ranked 11th in passing with 21.8 completions per game. Dixon finished the year fourth in total offense in Pac-10 with 219.3 yards per game and was also 6th in the league in passing efficiency. He also emerged as the team's leading rusher with a total of 442 yards with two touchdowns and a 4.7 yards per carry average. Dixon registered a career high 69 yards on the ground on 11 carries against UCLA. Following the season, Dixon was chosen to the league’s second-team academic all-conference quarterback with a 3.27 cumulative gpa in sociology.
