Clemson will finish the regular season against rival South Carolina minus defensive end Ricky Sapp who suffered a knee injury in the first half of the Tigers' 13-3 victory over Virginia last weekend.
Sapp partially tore the ACL in his right knee and according to interim coach Dabo Swinney, is scheduled to go under the knife maybe as early as next week.
“I really hate that for Ricky,” Swinney said.
Sapp, a junior, has played in ten games this season with nine starts. He has collected 25 tackles, including 9-1/2 for losses, and 2-1/2 sacks. The Tigers will be shifting fellow junior Kevin Alexander from strong-side end in Sapp's absence.
Meanwhile, senior safety Chris Clemons has a sprained knee but will be playing against the Gamecocks (7-4, 4-4 SEC).
Redshirt freshman backup quarterback Willy Korn on the other hand will undergo MRI to re-examine his right, throwing shoulder after being diagnosed with a bruised humerus bone last month.
Although the Tigers (6-5, 4-4 ACC) already have six wins, they will need to win over USC in order to qualify for a bowl game since two of those wins came against The Citadel, and South Carolina State, both FCS teams.
