California running back Jahvid Best will be sidelined for atleast two weeks after suffering an elbow injury in the Bears' 42-7 victory at Memorial Stadium last Saturday.
Best got hurt when he dislocated his elbow while trying to break his own fall after being tripped up on a three-yard carry in the third quarter of the Colorado State game. He underwent MRI this past Monday but the test showed no fractures or serious tissue damage in the elbow.
Best will not undergo surgery but will be requiring treatment in order for him to return in time for the Arizona game on October 18. He is already ruled out for the Arizona State game this Saturday. A bye week following the Sun Devil game will give Best extra time to recover.
The absence of Best will be huge for Pac-10's No.2 rushing team since he is the team's best rusher and third in the league overall with averages of 105.2 yards a game and 7.1 yards a carry. Freshman Shane Vereen, averaging 69.8 yards a game and 8.0 yards per attempt, is expected to be the Bears' go-to-guy without Best on the line-up.
