The status of Auburn wide receiver Montez Billings and linebacker Merrill Johnson for this Saturday's game against 13th ranked Georgia (8-2, 5-2) are doubtful because of injuries.
Coach Tommy Tuberville said Tuesday that Billings is out with a broken nose while Johnson will also be sidelined with a broken hand. Tuberville said Johnson is doubtful against the Dawgs but hopes to return for the regular season finale. Billings, meanwhile, will probably be sidelined this weekend but is still hoping to return for the last game.
With Johnson out, Adam Herring is expected to see extended minutes.
“Adam and Spencer (Pybus)," Tuberville said on who the primary back-up will be in Johnson's absence. "Of course Chris (Evans) plays mostly every position and so we could look at that. But Adam will obviously have to play some.”
On a positive note, Tuberville sounded optimistic with the return of defensive linemen Sen'Derrick Marks, Antonio Coleman and Tez Doolittle to the practice field after sitting out against Tennessee-Martin.
"It’s good to see them," Tuberville said. "We’re going to need those guys on the field going into these last couple of games."
