Arkansas linebacker Wendel Davis is facing a felony criminal mischief charge after he was said to have punched through the window of a car that bumped his scooter.
Davis, 19, has been scheduled to appear before a judge on the 30th of July and if convicted, will be facing up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
According to police reports, Davis, a native of Sweeny, Texas, said that the man who hit his scooter, Onyebuchi Odunukwe, 20, had sent him threatening text messages in the days leading up to the incident. The threats were said to have stemmed in a previous incident where Odunukwe's girlfriend came to Davis' residence where she was kissed by the linebacker.
Less that two hours before the two got into a traffic accident on Maple Street, they also met outside of Reynolds Razorback Stadium, a meeting that resulted in a fight which had to be broken up by Arkansas athletic officials.
Davis was arrested on the 1st of July. Damages to Odunukwe's Nissan Altima is estimated to be at $3,000.
Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino said that he was aware of the incident and would act once he had "all of the facts regarding the situation."
"We'll let things play out for a little while," Petrino said. "Certainly they’ll be dealt with. Hopefully we can get everything straightened out the right way and whether there’s a suspension involved yet or not, I don’t know. We'll have to wait and see.”
Davis is the third member of the Hogs' defensive backfield to be arrested.
