Arkansas sophomore linebacker Freddy Burton has pleaded guilty Monday to drunken-driving and careless driving charges, both misdemeanors, in connection to his arrest a month ago.
The 19-year old Burton, a native of Morrilton, entered his plea in Fayetteville District Court and will be scheduled for sentencing early next month on the 8th of August just four days after the football team completes its first preseason practice. A day earlier, teammate Marques Wade was arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and careless driving.
Burton was arrested late in June when a police officer saw his car cross the center line. When he took a breathalyzer test, he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.13 which was above Arkansas' legal limit of 0.08.
A reserve linebacker, Burton has spent most of his freshman year playing with the special teams. He recorded 23 stops and was named to SEC's All-Freshman team.
