He also received MAC Freshman of the Year honors and established himself in the league's and the program's record books with a new MAC freshman record in all-purpose yards, and a school record in terms of receptions.

[edit] Personal Life
Brown is a native of Miami, Florida.
[edit] High School
Brown attended Miami Norland High School in Miami, Florida where he was a two-sport athlete, competing in both football and track. The athletic Miami native qualified for the state's 100meter event twice while winning the North Athlete of the Year award at the 2005 Miami-Dade Gridiron Classic. The speedy and aggressive Brown, who was coached in the gridiron by James Upton, was also selected to the Class 6A all-state team twice.
[edit] College
Prior to his stint at CMU, Brown spent a year at North Carolina Tech as he did not qualify for college to get scholarships. He saw action for the Tigers in 2006, playing under head football coach Tim Newman and producing impressive stats of 451 rushing yards and 13 scoring runs, 1,247 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes, and 11 punt returns and six kickoff returns for touchdowns in only five appearances. Among the universities that gained interest on Brown include Clemson, North Carolina, and Rutgers. With no scholarship offers, Brown entered 2007 as a walk-on at CMU.
[edit] 2007
In the season opener @ Kansas, Brown caught 4 passes for 23 yards, rushed once for 13 yards, and returned 4 kickoffs for 72 yards as the Chippewas lost 7-52. The following week, CMU notched its first win of the season over Toledo, 52-31, with Brown catching 9 passes for 105 yards and his first career touchdown reception while also returning 3 punts for 56 yards and a kickoff for 37 yards. Despite Brown compiling 247 @ Purdue and 182 all-purpose yards and a scoring catch against North Dakota State, the Chippewas fell in both occassions in lopsided fashion. CMU bounced back against Northern Illinois after Brown recorded 180 all-purpose yards and a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown---the first of his career---to help the Chippewas turn back the Huskies, 35-10, and earn his first weekly accolade, the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Players of the Week. At Ball State, Brown contributed 170 all purpose yards, 1 caught and another ran, as the Chippwas recorded their second consecutive win, 58-38. They also bagged another victory over the Army, 47-23, with Brown catching 8 passes for 69 yards before they bowed to Clemson, 14-70. He did register 6 catches for 40 yards and racked up career highs of 7 kickoff returns for 185 yards against the Tigers. In wins @ Kent State and Western Michigan, Brown racked up 165 and 127 all-purpose yards, respectively, including 8 catches for 86 yards and a score against the Golden Flashes and 5 receptions for 49 yards and 1 score against the Broncos. Against Eastern Michigan, the Chippewas lost out on a TD in the latter stages of the game, 45-48, putting to naught Brown's 142 all-purpose yard effort. His six passes against the Eagles also put him in the single season leadership with 77 total.
Prior to the regular season finale, Brown was also named as the MAC Report Online MAC Freshman of the Year, the third straight Chippewa to do so after running back Ontario Sneed in 2005 and Dan LeFevour in 2006. At Akron, Brown established career highs of 15 receptions (single-game school record) and 174 receiving yards to go with a carry for 10 yards as CMU took down the Zips, 35-32. Before CMU's postseason games, Brown received his MAC Freshman of the Year award as well as a pair of Freshman All-America Honors.
Brown then helped the Chippewas win in the MAC Championship game after contributing 6 catches for 30 yards, and then made his bowl game debut in the Motor City Bowl with a 4-catch, 94-yard, 1-TD performance in the close 48-51 loss to Purdue. Despite the loss, Brown received yet another All-American honors after catching a single season school-record 102 passes (2nd-most by a freshman in Bowl Subdivision) for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns, becoming only the fourth player in school history to post at least 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
[edit] 2008
Brown caught 6 passes for 97 yards and 2 touchdown receptions and rushed once to help the Offense win 45-42 over the defense in the Central Michigan spring football game.
